Course Description: |
The Florida Attorney General’s Office and The Florida Bar Elder Law Section’s Committee on Elder Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation are once again collaborating for the third year, to present this course, primarily for investigators and attorneys. The impact of elder financial abuse is significant and long-lasting. The irony is that many times, older victims only have a short time to appreciate legal action, let alone recover any of their financial losses. The goal of the course is to enhance attendees’ knowledge and skills in formulating successful investigations and legal remedies. This class brings together subject matter experts in the fields of finance, health and well-being of the elderly, and the legal protection of financial assets. Elder law attorneys, state attorneys and investigators will discuss competency, intent, legal documents, and other factors often involved in exploitation of the elderly. Utilizing the knowledge gained from these instructors, interactive discussions and exercises will ensure understanding of the elements of crime and strategies to develop legal action. Past experience has demonstrated enhanced team building and partnerships among attendees, some of whom have returned to their communities and initiated successful investigations and prosecutions.
